I finally find a silk that might work around here! Eri Silk is produced by a different moth, Samia racini, that feeds on castor leaves rather than mulberry. The moth creates a stronger and less lustrous silk thread and hatches naturally from the cocoon before harvest. While this silk is not vegan, that does make it cruelty free! It is also stronger, warmer, and less lustrous than mulberry silk, so it fills a different niche from what our Tencel yarns are doing.

Blended with organic cotton, this yarn is super soft with a shiny marl of silk thread. Eri silk seems to take dye in a more muted fashion, so you'll see that reflected in darker colorways.

Care Instructions

To keep finished objects looking their best, hand-wash in cool water and lay flat to dry.

Each skein is hand-washed thoroughly after dyeing, but please keep in mind that minimal bleeding or crocking can still occur on first wash. A prewash is recommended for projects using multiple colors, especially saturated colors.

As with all hand-dyed yarns, especially plant fibers, slight variations should be expected between batches and even within dye lots. We strongly advise purchasing all skeins for a project at the same time to ensure they come from the same dye lot. It is also best practice to alternate skeins as you work.
