Blue Lagoon - Dyed to Order

This pale ice blue tonal was a must for the collection as soon as I discovered the inspiration photograph! The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa that is one of the most visited attractions in Iceland, and it turns this lovely pale blue shade because of how the silica content in the water reflects the light.

I actually did not go to the Blue Lagoon when I was in Iceland because I was a very broke college grad and it costs some money to get in. Instead, we ventured a little ways into the hills in south Iceland to take advantage of Seljavallalaug, one of the country’s free hot spring pools—this one was built in 1923! They’re not really maintained, so it was a very interestingly, semi-slimy experience thanks all the algae on the bottom of the pool thriving in the warm water, but definitely one of the coolest things I’ve ever tried.

The tank pattern pictured is the Heya Tank by Kiyomi Burgin, using 2 skeins of Severn DK for a modified Size 1. The pattern is suitable for most fingering weight yarns, and our Severn DK.

Our yarns are hand-dyed with professional fiber reactive dyes on soft, eco-friendly vegan fibers. We do our best to represent yarn colors accurately in the listing photos, but please keep in mind that hand-dyed yarn inherently varies a bit from skein to skein, and different monitors may display colors differently.

Yarn is made in a smoke-free, pet-free environment. A scented soap is used at the beginning of the dye process on all bases except Anacostia and Severn, but is rinsed repeatedly after this; yarns otherwise do not contain fragrances.
